Finally had a chance to wear the Alpha Active crew. I've worn Alpha Direct extensively on several multi-day long distance hikes and it is my favorite fabric for cooler, wetter and strenuous endeavors,,, but hard to find. Was very excited to find Beyond the Trailhead Gear. This piece is well made and a joy to wear. Will definitely be buying more in the future. Very fortunate to have a company like this catering to our needs. Customer service awesome. The fit is perfect for me. Planning to use this as a next-to-skin layer. As a result it is closer fitting to serve this role. Sizing is always a challenge so for reference I am 5'9", 170# with 44" chest and 28" waist. The medium is a snug comfortable fit, perfect for a base layer. If you were going to use it as a sweater over a base layer, size up. Highly recommend this piece and this company.
I finally got out with my Rip-Back 190. Had to wait till after deer season. Being over 65, hiking in winter is challenging. Staying warm is tricky because l don’t hike fast. This layer is super warm with just a base layer and light wind breaker.
Zip up the wind breaker and nice and toasty, open the zipper and instant venting of excess heat. This piece is going to make my winter hikes much more enjoyable. My wife also loves the softness of the Alpha material. Please let me know when the active crew becomes available so I can surprise her with one. It is great to see hand made craftsmanship making a comeback. It definitely has an impact on my purchases. Excellent work!
Thanks again! Tom
Bought my third pair lol
Absolutely lov3 these!
Great fit. This is an excellent mid layer for where under a coat on extremely cold days. I was outside last weekend in 0° temperatures for several hours and never felt cold.
Great fit and function on the Rip Back Hoodie 90. It works well as a mid layer for cold winter rides. Excellent value! I’ll be looking at other products from BTTB.
I was worried about simply melting at this weight, I have a 120 and 90 already, and they perform amazingly keeping me warm.
I am absolutely jazzed to say, this thing rocks a 50 degree spread just fine, all the bulk to wrap up in, very little weight, and damn it looks freaking awesome!
I have been wearing this hoody for multiple days now, seasonal change, temps between 20-60F. Have not needed a shell at the lower temps, and with little movement at the top end stay fine comfort wise. Slight breeze flows through, but too heavy for activity top end (don’t do New York Pass in this). But I’m wearing it in the basement while cruising gear websites on the couch, and it’s just fine!
My old head equates warm with heavy and bulky. This hoody drops the heavy, but still checks the box for bulky, and that keeps my head happy and my body warm.
Another quality product from Justin here, just can’t go wrong with this guy! And alpha really is all that in my book, just a super performance fabric for us folks in the tundra.
-proud owner of 23 hoodies currently, alpha, grid fleece, powerwool, pat cap, craterlake, echo, etc etc. I have issues.
I have bought several items from Beyond the Trailhead; all have been well designed, meticulously constructed, and a joy to wear on backpacking trips and day hikes with amazing warmth for the weight. I also enjoy wear the crew sweater for day-to-day use, so soft, warm and light.
