I was worried about simply melting at this weight, I have a 120 and 90 already, and they perform amazingly keeping me warm.
I am absolutely jazzed to say, this thing rocks a 50 degree spread just fine, all the bulk to wrap up in, very little weight, and damn it looks freaking awesome!
I have been wearing this hoody for multiple days now, seasonal change, temps between 20-60F. Have not needed a shell at the lower temps, and with little movement at the top end stay fine comfort wise. Slight breeze flows through, but too heavy for activity top end (don’t do New York Pass in this). But I’m wearing it in the basement while cruising gear websites on the couch, and it’s just fine!
My old head equates warm with heavy and bulky. This hoody drops the heavy, but still checks the box for bulky, and that keeps my head happy and my body warm.
Another quality product from Justin here, just can’t go wrong with this guy! And alpha really is all that in my book, just a super performance fabric for us folks in the tundra.
-proud owner of 23 hoodies currently, alpha, grid fleece, powerwool, pat cap, craterlake, echo, etc etc. I have issues.
I have bought several items from Beyond the Trailhead; all have been well designed, meticulously constructed, and a joy to wear on backpacking trips and day hikes with amazing warmth for the weight. I also enjoy wear the crew sweater for day-to-day use, so soft, warm and light.
It won’t come in the next day mail, but somehow that makes it even better. Quality is not instant, but I know this will last years.
Hiked with this over a thin t and an Outdoor Vitals Ventus Hoodie in around 3C and I was too hot. Really great for hanging around camp, so warm and comfy, love the kangaroo pocket and thumbholes. Hood is great.
Now that fall arrived, I think I’ve worn it every day it’s unbelievably and incredibly comfortable and perfect at keeping me warm and not too hot. Customer service is outstanding.
My only complaint is on sizing. I wish there were at least a Large and Small selection. I don’t have huge hands, but the size is quite snug. It fits my wife perfectly.
Thanks for leaving the feedback! Glad the design hit the mark. I actually just launched them in a larger size yesterday so they can accomadate a larger range now. Reach out if you have any questions! – Justin
Nice fit and finish and super lightweight! Thanks for a great product, I love my hoodie!
Glad to hear it hit all those marks! Happy Trails - Justin
I’ve hiked in this sweater with a lmesh layer underneath at around 2C and had an Outdoor Research Ventus hoodie and I was too warm. It’s so comfy, light and warm. Love the kangaroo pocket and the thumb holes.
Glad to hear the hoodie it working out perfect for you! It's definitely easy to underestimate it's warmth potential : ) - Justin
I have perpetually cold hands but struggle with every little task when my dexterity is limited by thick gloves or mittens. I love that I can flip the mits back and have full use of my fingers while the rest of my hand stays covered. They are well made and cute. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks!
Awesome to hear they're working out perfect for you - there's nothing worse than having to constantly pull off mittens/gloves! - Justin
I was finally able to use my new mitts on trail. They performed amazing. I paired them with some zpack gloves at first but eventually just used them by themselves and they still performed amazing. They are definitely lightweight but that doesn't stop them from being incredibly warm and comfortable. They were a little big for my hands but it wasn't really an issue and once I layered them they fit just fine. They definitely have become a part of my cold weather gear set up. Thanks so much for a great product. 🤙
Love this! Honered to hear they worked well enough to earned a spot in your cold weather gear set up!! Thanks - Justin
I’ve used these mittens both running early in the morning and hiking in the mountains. They are comfortable and warm enough for 35-45 degree weather.
Glad to hear the Mitts are working out nicely in the mountains! Perfect for early morning runs too! Thanks -Justin
Great product. Great customer service. Unfortunately they took quite a while to receive. It has already started snowing here, so I have only been able to wear them once while walking the dog around the block. I won't be able to give a real review until next hiking season. If lead times and shipping where faster I would have given 5 starts.
Thanks for the review! I’m glad the gloves fit well and that you’re happy with the quality. Totally understand the frustration with the wait — I’m working on ways to get orders out faster, and I hope they get plenty of trail time next season! – Justin
Great company! I was in a bit of a rush visiting the USA and Justin helped me out, went above and beyond. The rip-back hoodie is amazing!
Glad you were able to snag it before you left the country! Hopefully the hoodie is still treating you awesome!! -Justin
Love the design and functionality of these mitts and they are crazy light. They are universal size so if the length of your hand is 8.5 of longer they can fit snug.
Glad to hear the design and functionality hit the mark. And that the size is still working out. Tho after much feed back, I have sized them out and added a larger size to help accommodate larger hands too! Thanks for leaving the feedback!! - Justin

The delta hoodie with the added thumb holes is the ticket for the alpine, hot cold and sunny with a little hail now and then, that kind of weather.
Having the majority of your hand covered when the sun is a bit closer is great to avoid back of the hand burns, or hives in my case.
Justin does great work, his attention to detail and finish allows the fabric the lay down flat and not irritate, even working sticks for a few clicks.
I’d get ‘em, I always do!
So, this review is bitter-sweet, My wife loves them! Which is great, but now I need a pair to replace the ones she took from me. The gloves are soft and warm but really breathable. Plus, the flip top means you get the best of both a finger glove and a mitten. Definitely going to hide my next pair in with my winter gear rather than storing them in the communal glove drawer!
Sounds like a mitt-stealing situation 😆 Glad they’re a hit! – Justin
Received the Mitts the last day of summer so as far as cold protection I can't judge....as for fit and quality I have absolutely been quite impressed. The fit is perfect and I am Very Impressed with the quality of both the material used and as to how the mitts are made.I have every confidence that these "Mitts" will give me the weather protection that I ordered them for. Thank- You for your MITTS!!!
Thanks so much! I’m glad the fit and construction are hitting the mark and I appreciate your confidence in them! Hope they since have been getting some use as it gets colder! – Justin
Well made, great fabrics and design! I have men's medium size hands and they are difficult to slide on, and a bit tight and short. Feel almost like Chinese sizing. Giving them to my wife for Christmas.
Thanks for leaving the feedback! Glad the fabric choices and design hit the mark. I actually just launched them in a larger size yesterday so they can accomadate a larger range now. Reach out if you have any questions! – Justin
Glad to hear this! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review!! – Justin
I purchased the Alpha Direct 90 Hoodie with the kangaroo pocket. The pocket is a very useful add for carrying gloves, buff, chapstick and other lightweight essentials. Combined with the optional thumbholes, it is also a cozy place to warm your hands. I bought a second hoodie in the same configuration for a family member who is walking the Camino.
So glad the hoodie’s hitting the mark! Excited to get the second one out to you very soon as well! – Justin
After I heard about Polartec Delta here on the BTTgearco website, I had to try out a hoodie! I'm glad I did. This is a pretty unique fabric. It's not super thin, delicate, or lightweight like some sun hoodies. I'd say it's more of a midweight. But it breathes well, is stretchy, durable, and dries pretty quickly. I used it on a section hike of the North Country Trail, and it performed well. I like the thumbholes! I'm not sure I'd wear this on super hot days (over 80F/25C), but it's great for weather in the 50's-70's (10C-24C). I wore it under a windbreaker, and it was perfect for a breezy 55-degree day. I can't say much about the stink factor because I only wore it on and off for a few days on trail. But it came through that and didn't seem to be holding a bad smell.
I did have to size down. I usually wear a large, but had to go medium in this hoodie. No problem, though, because customer service at BTTgearco is top-notch. Also, the hood is a little oversized for my taste, but it does fit well while wearing a baseball-style cap. Anyway, this hoodie is now part of my go-to clothing for hikes.
Awesome to hear the Delta Hoodie pulled its weight on the North Country Trail! Thanks for all the great details — and I’m glad the sizing swap worked out. – Justin
It’s not quite cold enough in MN to put these to the real test on the trail but they work great at the kids hockey practice! The arena is freezing and these mittens along with my puffy are the perfect combo. I’ll be getting another pair for my wife.
Hockey practice is the perfect proving ground, those rinks can be cold! Thanks for the awesome review and for spreading the warmth to your wife too. – Justin
